Re: August Club Sea Paddle - Change of date
I'd be interested in this - if it is likely to be within my capabilities.
I picked up a second hand sea kayak recently but am relatively inexperienced in the dark art. I have paddled most other floating things over the years though.

Hi Rod, Can you come down to Brereton on Thursday this week with your boat and we can do some drills & talk things through? // Fraser

Re: August Club Sea Paddle - Change of date
Hi there Frazer,
I won't be able to get down to Brereton this Thursday - I live up in Saddleworth and have a pretty hectic week in prospect.
I understand that you might want to make an assessment of basic competence though. While I've never done loads of sea kayak, I have done a bit in N Ireland back in the day. I hold L4 Inland kayak & canoe, and have run PSR/ FSRT courses in the past. I'm not sure who still gets out on the sea from MADCC these days, but I have paddled racing boats along with John Kavanagh and Mark Finch.
My new "experimental" boat is a Vajda Mission X1 - 5.1m plastic with rudder. I've just had a play around with it this morning having made a few adjustments and it seems to paddle & roll okay with wing paddles. I'd next like to give it a run out in relatively benign (hopefully) sea conditions, but if you are planning something more adventurous then I'm happy to leave it until another occasion.
Cheers,
Rod.
