Litter picking - Macclesfield canal - central Macc

I'm planning to do a water-borne litter pick on the Macclesfield canal in collaboration with Canal River Trust.
Once I've finished filling in their many forms I will be able to set a date for the event...

The plan is to operate from the CRT depot on Swettenham Street, Macclesfield and pick on the canal as far as Hurdsfield road going north, and down towards Bullocks lane going south.

Open boats and SUPs are the best craft for this activity. Probably only need 4-6 open boats, I'm planning on using a SUP.

Litter-picking sticks and rubbish bags will be provided, and CRT will dispose of all the rubbish.

CRT are most interested in doing the litter pick during the working week, but it may be possible to run the event on a Saturday.

So, please let me know if:

1) You are interested in joining a litter pick

2) If you would be available during the working week (Mon-Fri)

3) If you would only be available on a Saturday

After a lot of chasing CRT and a lot of form-filling, we finally have a date for a central Macclesfield litter pick.

We will use the CRT depot at Swettenham Street, Macclesfield as our base. The intention is to cover the canal as far north as Hurdsfield road and as far south as Bullocks Lane.

I suggest that open boats and SUPs (with a gardening trug on the front) are the best craft for the job. Probably only needs two small groups of us - 3-4 boats per group.

I'll confirm exact timings closer to the date but I'm currently thinking of meeting at 10.00 at Swettenham Street and picking until either we get bored or we've cleaned the canal!

I'm waiting to hear from CRT whether or not the litter pick planned for the 20th is still going ahead.

The low water levels in the canal might be an issue. I'll let the forum know as soon as I know!

The litter pick is GOOD TO GO on 20th September.

I know Nigel is no longer free but it would be good to have a few more folks along.

I'm bringing a SUP, a trug, and a stack of litter picking sticks and rubbish bags.

Meet at the CRT yard off Sweettenham Street, Macclesfield at 10am. There should be enough parking in the yard for up to 6 cars.

On a separate but related note, CRT would appreciate some help with floating pennywort and litter removal on the Peak Forest canal near Hyde. I'll get more details on Saturday.

9 club members plus Grace from CRT had a fun couple of hours litter picking. And, it didn't rain too hard! The canal in the middle of Macclesfield is now pristine. Thanks to everyone for your excellent help.
